New Buildings
General School News

Friday, 26 March 2010

The buildings have changed at Brymore this year, bringing a fresh approach to teaching and learning, and a new dimension to boarding as well.   The new classrooms were opened officially alongside the two new boarding houses in January 2009 by HRH The Princess Royal and, after four terms in the classrooms and three terms in the boarding houses we can honestly say that Brymore boys will look after new buildings better than even they thought possible!

WHAT IS ‘F.O.B.S.A’?
FOBSA
Written by Emma Boulton
Monday, 25 January 2010

FoBSAFriends of Brymore School Association – exists to support the school by raising funds to provide ’extra’ items that enhance the boys’ life at school and support for school activities which otherwise might not be funded. There is no formal ‘membership’ and everyone is welcome to get involved – parents, relatives and friends. FoBSA is a great opportunity to be involved in school life, to make contact with parents, governors and staff and to keep in touch with what is going on at Brymore.

FROM  BOATS TO BEANBAGS...In 2008-9 FoBSA funded the pool and snooker tables in the new boarding houses, helped to purchase a boat for the Sailing Club and sponsored the boys’ outing to the Royal Show during Activities Week.So far in 2010 FoBSA has purchased four beanbags for the library, to help make it more comfortable and informal for the boys. FoBSA is currently raising funds to provide pool tables and snooker tables for the revamped School House later in 2010.

TEA AND CAKE...?Each year around £6,000 is contributed to school. FoBSA raises this money through a programme of events, primarily providing refreshments at the annual Brymore School Open Day (the last Saturday in June); the New Parents’ Pig Roast; the Harvest Lunch and Christmas Bingo. FoBSA members make copious amounts of tea, coffee, hot soup and wonderful home-made cakes at events throughout the year, including cross-country and other sporting events and at Saturday pick-ups, providing welcome refreshment and an opportunity to socialise.

SUPPORT FOBSA...Please support FoBSA in whatever way you can – coming along to help serve teas, providing cakes, donating raffle-prizes or contributing your boys’ outgrown uniform (which FoBSA will make available to purchase at the Open Day). And if nothing else enjoy the refreshments which FoBSA makes available – and donate generously! - all the funds raised go towards school and the boys’ enjoyment of school life.

HOW TO GET INVOLVED..Ann Dyer is currently Chair of FoBSA.  If you would like to get involved, call her on 01278 653442 or email This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it  ; introduce yourself at any event or just come along to a FoBSA meeting – dates are publicised in the school newsletter. Meetings are usually held on Saturdays at the beginning or end of term.

The next FoBSA event is on the 27th March 2010.

  • Parents' Chads Hill Walk at 12 noon followed by lunch (please book with the school)
  • FoBSA meeting.
  • FoBSA will also be providing tea andc akes after the House Rugby Matches at 2:30 pm.
