The basic unit for pastoral organisation is the tutor group: each tutor group being in one of three 'houses' - Galsworthy, Taylor and Walker (all named after ex members of staff). Boarders, of course, have the added support of House Parents - two are in each boarding house.
A tutor is timetabled for a lesson each week with his/her group during which personal and social development, careers education and tutorial work are carried out. Because of its small size, Brymore enjoys the situation of every member of staff knowing every boy. There is a staff meeting at the beginning of each day when individual plans or problems can be discussed.
Apart from the regular parent-teacher meetings, parents are encouraged to contact a tutor or house parent concerning individual matters of academic or social progress. All staff, including the Headmaster, Deputy and Assistant Heads are also available for consultation by appointment.
The School encourages good manners, honesty and respect for each other. Brymore expects pupils to be proud of their achievements and their school. All pupils wear full school uniform (blazers and ties) for assembly every morning but may take them off before going to lessons in open necked shirts and sweatshirt if required. Boys wear uniform again when representing the school, for example, when showing visitors round or playing for a team. This common sense approach to uniform is well respected by the boys. |
