The results this year were 37% of boys gaining 5 A*-C (up from 30%) with 27% gaining 5 A*-C including English and Maths (up from 11%). GCSE Results (% 5 A*-C) over the last 6 years looks like this: 2003 2004 2005 2006 2007 2008 2009 27% 40% 34% 42% 39% 30% 37% If we include English and Maths the results are 2003 2004 2005 2006 2007 2008 2009 18% 33% 25% 28% 21% 11% 27% The NVQ results show 69% boys gaining the full NVQ in Livestock Production at Level 2(54% last year) out of 49 registered candidates. 2 gained Level 1. In Horticulture, 98% gained NVQ1 (compared to 80% last year.) All Year12 passed their BTEC or NVQ course. Staff and students are to be congratulated on the fourth best results ever, but there was a tinge of disappointment as many boys worked their socks off, as did the staff, yet we failed narrowly to pass the National Challenge target of 30% 5 A*-C including English and maths. Some of the boys did spectacularly well – Sonny Hawan got 2 Bs, 5 As and 2 A*s while not far behind were Phil Cowell (an A, 4 Bs and 4 Cs) Josh Keyte (3 As, 5 Bs and a C) and Sam Tinknell ( one A*, 3 As, 3 Bs and 2 Cs). Other lads did equally well in achieving far more than predicted – so we are as proud of the D grades that some boys got as we are of the A*s. The NVQ results also were good, and Year 12s achieved 100% success in their BTEC and NVQ courses – not without some pushing! Art managed to get 94% C and above (the other 6% being Ds) with an A*, 3 As, 18 Bs and 22 Cs – quite exceptional. The boys really responded to the work ethic set by Mr Fitzsimons and Mrs Hollidge and produced some outstanding pieces. No pressure for next year then!
